The Toffees badly need a win to turn things around after a positive start to the season
Everton need a win tonight to get their season back on track after their last three games have gone askew. A scoreless home draw against Aston Villa, a close Merseyside Derby defeat to Liverpool last weekend, and then compounded by getting dumped out by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup.
In those three games Everton have only scored once, Idrissa Gueye’s smashing shot against the Reds. That aside, it’s like Everton’s attack starts and ends with Jack Grealish, and when he is double- and triple-teamed none of the other players seem capable of taking advantage of the situation.
And then there is the struggle with the strikers. Neither Beto nor summer signing Thierno Barry has grabbed the opportunity to be the regular starter, and neither is scoring consistently or even otherwise.
Who’s Out?
Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Röhl remain out per David Moyes in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Starters (likelihood of starting rated out of 10)
Jordan Pickford – 9/10
Vitaliy Mykolenko – 7/10
Michael Keane – 9/10
James Tarkowski – 9/10
Jake O’Brien – 8/10
Idrissa Gueye – 8/10 Gana was sorely missed in the defeat at Wolves.
James Garner – 7/10
Jack Grealish – 9/10 Getting Grealish back in the goal contributions column is very important.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 9/10 His introduction in the second half at Wolves was pivotal to kickstarting the attack.
Iliman Ndiaye – 9/10
Beto – 7/10 This could go either way really, but Moyes might have to look at a False-9 experiment soon if the barren run continues upfront.
Bench
Mark Travers
Adam Aznou – Interesting that Moyes thinks the youngster is still not ready to play at this level.
Nathan Patterson
Seamus Coleman
Tim Iroegbunam
Dwight McNeil – Looked lethargic and slow on Tuesday, despite not having played in weeks.
Tyler Dibling
Carlos Alcaraz – Another one who had an opportunity to shine and didn’t quite grasp it.
Thierno Barry
