Dayot Upamecano seems to be a man in demand heading into the summer transfer window, with his contract at Bayern Munich set to expire on 30 June next year.
Real Madrid, for one, have been credited with interest in the French international, as the club are keeping an eye on the centre-back for reinforcements before next season.
Upamecano happens to be one of many options on Los Blancos’ radars, who are also monitoring his compatriot, Ibrahima Konate – another player who could be available for free at the end of the season.
Bayern Munich working to convince Upamecano to stay
Amidst question marks over his continuity at the club, Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has come out and stated that he is not surprised by the interest that Upamecano is generating, while also insisting that they wish to keep him at the club.
“I’m not surprised that many clubs are interested in Dayot Upamecano… and we are also interested in extending his contract,” Eberl said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

However, the Bayern Munich transfer chief acknowledged that the process will take time and they are still working on convincing the defender to renew – suggesting that the player has not made any decision yet and there is door open for other clubs to make a move.
“It takes time. We’re trying to conduct the talks and convince him of the Bayern project,” the Bavarians’ director admitted.
It must be noted that apart from Real Madrid, Liverpool are also understood to be interested in Upamecano, as a possible replacement for Konate, who might end up at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
Either way, it looks like the upcoming summer could see some major moves in the centre-back market, and Real Madrid are likely to be at the centre of it.
