Troy Aikman: "I think Zac Taylor will be the first to tell you there was nothing that you walk out of this stadium feeling good about."
As the Cincinnati Bengals fell to 2-2 with an ugly 28-3 loss to the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High on Monday Night Football, Monday Night Football's Joe Buck and Troy Aikman talked about their impressions of the Bengals' lackluster effort.
"If you're Zac Taylor, you're gonna have to find a way to hold this thing together," Buck said. "They've got more penalties than first downs tonight. … If you've got Jake Browning at quarterback, you cannot play a game like this around him with all the mistakes and expect to compete. And they just frankly after their first possession, didn't compete."
"No," Aikman said. "Now they're gonna clean this up and have a better outing against Detroit, who's rolling? Good luck with that. This has been an embarrassing effort by the Cincinnati Bengals. Shouldn't take away from what Denver was able to do. … This game was over essentially when Bo Nix threw the touchdown to make it 21-3."
"This was an embarrassing effort," Aikman continued. "I think Zac Taylor will be the first to tell you there was nothing that you walk out of this stadium feeling good about. So where do you start? Gosh, how about let's just start with not being penalized so much, pre-snap, which is kinda what they teach you back in Pop Warner football. ... For an organization that's been so good offensively for so many years ... there's not a lot to get excited about right now."
