Jürgen Klopp: "I don't want to work as a coach anymore"

Jürgen Klopp, the iconic former Liverpool manager, confirmed it in an interview with The Athletic: after nearly nine years at the helm of the Reds, the German tactician has no intention of returning to coaching. Yet, Al Ittihad is trying to lure him to the Saudi Pro League.

A new life after Liverpool

Since the summer of 2024, Klopp has left Liverpool, where he won the Premier League, the Champions League, and a host of other trophies. Now 58 years old, he holds a pivotal role at the Red Bull group as "Head of Global Soccer," overseeing all the company's football clubs around the world. He shared:

I've simply enjoyed life. I’ve exercised, spent time with my grandchildren… just normal things, knowing I would work again, but also certain that I don’t want to be a coach anymore.

He adds, jokingly:

At 58, if I started again at 65, everyone would say: “You said you wouldn’t do it anymore!” Well, sorry, but I meant it 100% when I said it.

A career marked by success and experience

Before Liverpool, Klopp had only managed two other clubs: Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, with whom he broke Bayern Munich’s dominance and captured two Bundesliga titles. On this, he commented:

If you look at my career, there are plenty of paths more impressive than mine. But I got everything I could have. I lost more Champions League finals than most people even play in. I learned how to lose and keep going, and I don’t hold anything back.
