The Green Bay Packers are inching closer to getting wide receiver Christian Watson back.
On Tuesday, head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that there is a chance the team will open Watson's practice window after the bye in Week 5.
Once he's designated to return, the Packers will have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster. If that doesn't happen, he'll be out for the rest of the season.
"That's been in discussion," LaFleur said of opening Watson's practice window after the bye, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
The Athletic's Matt Schneidman added that Watson had previously said he expects to return to practice after the bye.
Watson has spent the entire offseason and first four weeks of this season on the PUP list as he works his way back from a torn ACL suffered in January.
With the update on Tuesday, Watson returning as early as Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals becomes a possibility.
However, as we previously stated, the Packers will have three weeks to activate him for a game, so his debut could come as late as Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers if his window opens next week. Green Bay faces the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.
Watson return will be huge, as the Packers are short-handed at wide receiver thanks to the injury to Jayden Reed, who is currently on injured reserve.
