COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — A University of Maryland student is starting his marketing career early, even though he hasn’t yet graduated.
During last season’s March Madness tournament, Milan Chaudhary created the “Crab 5” men’s UMD basketball team tee shirts.
“We are trying to create something big with the athletes here, and I love the fact that I have this because it allows me to platform so many opportunities with our great athletes,” Chaudhary said.
The motivated student is now fully licensed with UMD Athletics and will support their NIL — name, image and likeness — efforts. The 21-year-old senior can now put the Maryland logo on his shirts for his company,“ Brown Boy Nation”.
Noelle Cobb, assistant coach for the UMD Women’s basketball team, says she is so excited for Milan Chaudhary.
“First and foremost, we are so grateful for his opportunity to work with our student athletes, and him being a student himself, and that’s a great opportunity, and we were able to use some of his ideas for shirts to wear as a staff,” Cobb said.
Chaudhary has already signed several athletes at Maryland and also signed Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey Merritt.
“Here at the university, I am very excited to do the NIL efforts with the school because it gives me credibility for the grassroots operations that I am currently working in, and it allows me to work with all the athletes here to help me expand my credibility and to help them receive the shares that they’ve earned,” he said.
Chaudhary believes he is one of the youngest entrepreneurs in America, doing this as a college student.
