It’s not just Chelsea who are being hit by injuries at the wrong moment.
Just as European football starts to kick in, our sister club Strasbourg are losing players too. French football paper L’Equipe has today reported that Mamadou Sarr, the 20 year old defender who is on loan from the Blues to our BlueCo companions, picked up a thigh injury yesterday in the team’s training session as they prepare to start their European campaign with a game against Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Europa Conference League tomorrow night.

“Liam Rosenior was gradually getting his full squad back, but he lost Emmanuel Emegha and Mamadou Sarr for the two matches this week against Bratislava on Thursday and Angers on Sunday,” the article claims.
“While the Dutchman’s hamstring injury was known, the 20-year-old central defender’s injury has not yet been announced. He suffered a thigh injury during Tuesday’s training session.”
Strasbourg have been coping without Emegha for most of this season so far, but he has at least been able to contribute as a sub. Losing your best central defender as well as your best striker will hurt them.
Strasbourg want winning start to European campaign
Still, Bratislava should be beatable given this team are still in impressive domestic form, and Angers are not a bad team to play while you’re missing a few players. Liam Rosenior and his group did so well to qualify for this competition (and very easily could have been in the Champions League), so we hope they get what they deserve and get off to a winning start tomorrow night.
Emegha is joining Chelsea this summer – although there has been speculation that move could be brought up to January due to injuries up front.
