Nathan Gonzalez definitely set a tone for his team.

Gonzalez, a senior for Bixby, ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the Spartans’ game against Choctaw on Sept. 19. But he didn’t stop there, as he went on to catch four passes for 96 yards and score two touchdowns as Bixby went on to roll to a 57-7 win in a matchup between defending state champions (Bixby in Class 6A-I; Choctaw in Class 6A-II).

For his efforts, Gonzalez won the vote to be named as The Sporting News Oklahoma Player of the Week from Week 3 (Sept. 15-21).
