Manchester City face AS Monaco at Stade Louis II in the second fixture of their UEFA Champions League group-stage campaign on Wednesday evening.

The Blues claimed a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Napoli in their opening group-stage tie two weeks ago, when Kevin De Bruyne paid an emotional return to the Etihad Stadium in Napoli colours three months on from leaving Manchester City.

City are in a rich vein of form heading into Monaco, with club captain Bernardo Silva hoping to steer his side to victory upon his return to the club where he spent three seasons and won the 2016-17 Ligue 1 title before joining Manchester City for £43 million.

After a stuttering start to the season, Pep Guardiola’s men have turned a corner following the September international break and have been given a major lift by the deadline day signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma has been a breath of fresh air in a dressing room that has witnessed a series of high-profile departures in the recent transfer window, with newly-appointed Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana laying down a marker into his appointment.

City are missing Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov to injury, with Ballon d’Or winning midfielder Rodri deemed fit to start against AS Monaco by Guardiola in a press conference on Tuesday.

Having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage last term, Guardiola and Manchester City will desperate to improve upon their showing in the competition last season as they navigate a period of transition on and off the pitch at the Etihad Stadium.
