MIAMI GARDENS, Fla., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill underwent successful surgery on his left knee, he announced Wednesday.

"Surgery went great," Hill wrote on X.

The Dolphins also said Wednesday they placed Hill on season-ending injured reserve. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel added that Hill will remain in the hospital overnight for observation.

"He is in the hospital," McDaniel said of Hill at the Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens, Fla. "He was there last night. He will spend the night again tonight for precautions so he has the finest care.

"There has been a plethora of teammates that have made sure that their guy is good as well as above and beyond training staff. He is doing well and starting the long road to recovery."

Hill dislocated his left knee early in the second half of the Dolphins' 27-21 win over the New York Jets on Monday in Miami Gardens. He was carted off the field and taken to the hospital.

McDaniel said Tuesday that several ligaments, including the ACL, were damaged as part of Hill's knee dislocation. Drew Rosenhaus, Hill's agent, told WSVN 7 News on Tuesday that the goal is for Hill to be ready to play by Week 1 of next season.

Hill's three-year, $90 million contract runs through the 2026 season. He is owed $36 million next season, but that figure is not guaranteed. The Dolphins could opt to cut Hill before next season, resulting in a dead salary cap hit of $28.2 million. They could split that cap hit between two seasons if they designate Hill as a post-June 1 release.

"He would love to stay with the Dolphins," Rosenhaus said Tuesday. "We would love to get together with them after the season and figure something out that works for both sides and continue his career here in Miami."

Hill, 31, totaled 21 catches for 265 yards and a score through four starts this season. The eight-time Pro Bowl selection and five-time All-Pro totaled 4,733 yards and 28 total scores over his first 54 appearances for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins now have a wide receivers room that contains Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Dee Eskridge, Tahj Washington and Cedrick Wilson Jr.

Wilson, who signed with the Dolphins on Wednesday, will not practice this week. McDaniel said the veteran wide receiver underwent a minor procedure two weeks ago.

The Dolphins (1-3) will play the Carolina Panthers (1-3) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
