Michigan State basketball lands four-star recruit Julius Avent in class of 2026

Michigan State basketball has landed Julius Avent, a four-star recruit from New Jersey in the class of 2026.

The advent of the Avent age of Michigan State basketball is about to dawn in East Lansing next year.

Tom Izzo’s recruiting mojo continued as the Spartans landed a commitment from four-star wing Julius Avent on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Avent announced his decision on social media.

The product of Bergen Catholic High in Oradell, New Jersey, picked the Spartans over finalists Seton Hall and Xavier, as well as Providence and Penn State among other offers. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Avent is rated the No. 78 player overall and No. 13 power forward nationally, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Bergen Catholic #0 Julius Avent make his entrance. Ridgewood boys basketball hosts Bergen Catholic in a game on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025.

Avent averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 assists last season in helping Bergen Catholic to a Non-Public A state boys’ basketball championship in March. He joins four-star point guard Carlos Medlock Jr., who committed in July, in Izzo’s 2026 class.
