The Spire Motorsports driver spun out on lap 260 at Kansas Speedway and allegedly endangered safety personnel when they responded.
Spire Motorsports Cup driver Carson Hocevar was fined $50,000 by NASCAR on Wednesday for his actions during Kansas Speedway’s Hollywood Casino 400 that the sanctioning body deemed dangerous to safety workers.
The incident occurred on lap 260 when Hocevar’s Chevrolet spun on the 1.5-mile track’s backstretch, flattening several tires. Safety personnel were dispatched to Hocevar’s car after the yellow flag waved.
After they arrived at his car, officials indicated that Hocevar revved his car’s engine and spun its tires in an attempt to rejoin the field while the safety workers attended to his Chevrolet.
NASCAR said Hocevar’s actions violated the organization’s member conduct rule.
Hocevar was 13th when the incident occurred. It was his second accident in the 273-lap race that ended in overtime. On lap 217, he was involved in an 11-car accident that occurred in turn one on a restart. Hocevar eventually finished 29th, four laps down.
