UCF football injury report reveals status of QB Tayven Jackson for Kansas game

UCF football's initial player availability report came out Wednesday before the Knights' game against Kansas. Here's the first look.

One week after spraining a left shoulder joint, UCF quarterback Tayven Jackson should be all clear.

The redshirt junior did not appear on the initial player availability report released by the Big 12 Conference Wednesday night, Oct. 1, meaning the Knights expect him to play against Kansas Saturday.

Jackson left last Saturday’s 34-20 loss to Kansas State in the second quarter, though he returned in the second half. He toughed it out to complete 12 of his 24 passes for 115 yards.

But it was his lowest completion percentage and yardage output of the season, and he gave away his first interception of the year in the fourth quarter.

Jackson has started all three of UCF’s games since the opener. Cam Fancher, who earned the job out of fall camp before suffering a back injury in the first half against Jacksonville State, no longer resides on the availability report, either.

The only quarterback on there is Jacurri Brown. Like Jackson, he left the contest against K-State with a shoulder ailment. He’s listed as questionable.

Brown hit on one of his two tosses for 82 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Wildcats.

“I think we have an idea (about the quarterbacks’ statuses),” head coach Scott Frost said on his radio show Wednesday before the injury report came out. “I feel good that everybody will be ready. Jacurri is the one that I'm not sure if he'll be able to go.”

The Knights will head into battle vs. the Jayhawks without at least six players.

Tight end Caden Piening, defensive tackle Horace Lockett, defensive back Jaylen Heyward, defensive back Jakob Gude, defensive back Jayden Williams and EDGE Josh Dorsainvil will miss the game, according to the availability report.

Along with Brown, tight end Dylan Wade, linebacker Keli Lawson, EDGE Isaiah Nixon and defensive back Isaiah Reed were designated as questionable.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Acrisure Bounce House.
