Ricky Pearsall is dealing with a knee injury for Week 5. We break down what it means for fantasy football decisions.
The Los Angeles Rams host the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football as 7-point favorites. That number has moved in the Rams favor as the 49ers key offensive players are dealing with injuries. Besides George Kitttle and Brandon Aiyuk, who are out already, Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings are all dealing with injuries as well.
Pearsall, the second-year wide receiver, has played well so far this season, while some of his main competition went down with injuries. But in Week 4, he tweaked his knee and was unable to return to the game. The injury doesn’t appear to be longterm, but with a short week, he isn’t going to have a whole lot of time to heal.
Ricky Pearsall injury updates
Pearsall has been officially ruled out for Thursday’s matchup against the Rams. The aforementioned Purdy and Jennings will also miss the contest, so it is yet another brutal week of injuries to star players for the Niners.
Fantasy football analysis
The Rams rank third-best in EPA allowed per drop back this season, but they do rank seventh-worst in adjusted fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. Pearsall would’ve been a low upside fantasy start had he been cleared for this contest, but that will not be the case.
With the second-year receiver out, Demarcus Robinson would likely see the biggest bump in snaps, while Kendrick Bourne would likely see more targets. Sky Moore should get a bump as well, but none of the backups are set up for huge usage as work will most likely be spread out. Christian McCaffrey should take on as much as he can handle, or more in this one. But he’s already doing that, so it’s hard to see him getting a big bump in work at this point.
