Wanderlei Silva will settle his feud with Acelino “Popo” Freitas in the courts rather than the ring after a DQ loss led to a brawl which saw “The Axe Murderer” knocked out cold by Freitas’ son Rafael.

Silva took to social media to announce his intention to sue Rafael Freitas for his participation in the Spaten Fights 2 brawl, claiming his injuries have kept him from being able to make a living.

“I had several work to do but I can’t because of my face,” Silva said (via MMA Fighting). “I can’t sleep, I’m in a lot of pain, in such discomfort. That can’t stay like that. That was undoubtedly a criminal act, and every criminal act has to be judged by the justice. And I’m going after justice.”

“I broke my two orbital [bones], I have my nose broken in four places. I was assaulted in criminal fashion by Popo’s son, who invaded the ring. He invaded the ring hitting me with two punches to the back of the head. Then, he landed the punch that opened a seven-stitch cut around my eye.”

“I’m very upset, I’m really hurt,” he said. “Hurt in the inside, hurt in the outside. Watching that scene, me laying no the ground and people who weren’t even security because the event had no security dragging me, right? What a horrible scene.”

Silva was disqualified from his exhibition boxing match against “Popo” after hitting the Brazilian with three very illegal headbutts. The ring quickly filled with Freitas team and family members, and Wanderlei’s corner also jumped in. When Silva stepped forward into the fray, Freitas’ son Rafael ran into the ring from behind to deliver a big punch to the back of Silva’s head.

Moments later Rafael circled back around and hit Wanderlei with two big punches that laid the UFC legend out on the canvas. Officials had to drag his limp body into a corner, and “The Axe Murderer” was rushed to a hospital and photos following the incident showed him with both eyes nearly swollen shut.

Initial reports suggested a broken nose and stitches near one eye, but it seems like the damage is far more extensive. Silva was also suspended by the Brazilian National Boxing Council (CNB) for 180 days, with the same suspension being given to Acelino Freitas.
