Bayern Munich Alumni: Thomas Müller becomes most decorated German player ever

The Raumdeuter just keeps on winning and winning.

Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has had quite the career in his days in Bavaria, winning no less than 34 major titles. But that stream of titles does not seem to have stopped after his move to Vancouver Whitecaps. Rather, it seems to have picked up right where it left off.

Müller added the Canadian Championship title to his already bulging trophy cabinet, winning his first major honor with his new club on Wednesday. He scored a penalty and assisted another goal in the Whitecaps’ 4-2 win over city rivals Vancouver FC. The win meant the Whitecaps successfully defended their title, and completed a four-peat as well. The goal also happened to be Müller’s 300th career goal.

Technically speaking, Müller’s first trophy for Vancouver came a few days earlier, when he won the Cascadia Cup. The Cup is contested between the Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders, and Portland Timbers, and is awarded to the team with the best head-to-head record in the season. However, because it is not an official competition held by MLS, Müller had to wait a bit for his first major title in North America.

The Canadian Championship win takes Müller up to 35 major titles in his career. This means that he is now the outright most decorated German player of all time. He was previously tied with former teammate Toni Kroos with 34.

With five goals, three assists, and two trophies to his name already, it is safe to say that Müller has definitely hit the ground running for the Whitecaps. He now chases down more silverware as the race for the MLS Supporters’ Shield heats up, and the MLS Cup Playoffs take shape.
