Is George Kittle playing tonight? Where is 49ers' star TE? originally appeared on The Sporting News

The San Francisco 49ers sit nicely at 3-1 on the season and as they do battle with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football, Mac Jones and the offense is cooking the L.A. defense.

It would be safe to assume that with the 49ers rolling, that tight end George Kittle would be playing a starting role...except he isn't.

Kittle is currently on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1.

But when could George return? NFL Network's Ian Rapoport stated that the star tight end could be back as soon as next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which would be huge for the 49ers.

What is also huge is how Jones is looking in this offense without a host of weapons, so we can only imagine what it could look like when the reinforcements arrive.

49ers just fine without Kittle

With George sidelined, the 49ers were doing just fine, racing out to a 3-0 record before the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars by one score in Week 4.

So, when Kittle does return, the 49ers' season is in good shape and if they were to beat the Rams, and move to 4-1 when George might return next week, things are all of a sudden looking up for Kyle Shanahan's depleted 49ers team.

Granted, we aren't sure if Kittle will be on a ramp-up period because the last thing the 49ers want is to rush him back only to have his hamstring give out again.

So, it might be a cautious approach taken by San Francisco's medical staff with their star tight end.
