The Los Angeles Chargers are not ignoring the mounting issues on the offensive line, but the team is addressing them in a mysterious way.
Earlier this week, the team added Michael Dunn to the practice squad. He was not the first choice of the fans who were screaming for the team to make a move after seeing Joe Alt go down last Sunday with a high ankle sprain. It's unknown how long Alt will be out for exactly, but he's expected to miss multiple games.
With Rashawn Slater already out for the season and Mekhi Becton having a tough time being available, the Chargers need to make some decisions. The one they made on Thursday was to sign veteran offensive tackle Bobby Hart to the practice squad. Hart is a well-traveled player, but one who hasn't played since 2022.
It seems like, at least for now, Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh are just looking for cheap, experienced swing tackle options who they could turn to in a pinch. The team also elevated Foster Sarell from the practice squad.
Hart was a seventh-round pick of the New York Giants out of Florida State in 2015. He has played in 98 career games, making 67 starts during his time with the Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills (where he had three stints), Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans.
He was with the Detroit Lions during the preseason in 2023 and the Washington Commanders this preseason. He was part of their final cuts. He is now 31 years old and his best days are behind him, but the Chargers are trying to stack options before having to take more drastic measures.
