Dual-threat quarterback Micah Joyner wins SN's fan vote for Midseason Georgia Freshman of the Year

Micah Joyner of the Dougherty [Albany, GA] Trojans has been selected by fans as the The Sporting News Midseason Freshman of the Year in Georgia.
Joyner collected 15,662 votes in a spirited battle with Sam Wasson of the Pinewood Christian [Bellville, GA] Patriots who picked up 12,047 votes. Xzabion Jackson of the Bainbridge [GA] Bearcats (3,092 votes) finished a distant third.
Joyner has shown a lot of promise in the first six games of his high school career. The freshman has passed for 819 yards, completing 50-of-85 attempts with 9 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He's shown a lot of growth with two of his best games coming in his two most recent appearances. Against the Crisp County [Cordele, GA] Cougars on September 12, he completed 22-of-36 passes for 389 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Then last week, Joyner showed off another facet of his game in a 23-19 win over the Monroe [Albany, GA] Golden Tornadoes. Joyner only attempted 12 passes, completing six of them for 75 yards and a touchdown. But he did most of the damage with his feet, running for 114 yards on just 10 carries to keep the sticks moving for his Trojans.
For the season, he's accounted for 996 yards of offense in just five games played. Dougherty has already matched its win total for the entire 2024 season when they finished 2-8.
