LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) — New Mexico State football played its way to a 37-10 win over Sam Houston in a Conference USA game at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.
The Aggies snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-2 on the season, while remaining perfect at home at 3-0.
Quarterback Logan Fife delivered a sharp and efficient performance in the win. The junior completed 19 of 26 passes for 255 yards, throwing one touchdown, with no interceptions, and was sacked just once.
The Aggies got a major boost with the return of TK King, who made his 2025 season debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. King hauled in six receptions for 132 yards, including a 54-yard catch from Fife in the second quarter — his longest play of the night.
NMSU’s defense made its presence felt throughout the game, holding Sam Houston to just 3-of-13 on third downs and limiting them to 10 total points.
The unit tallied two sacks, seven tackles for loss, and a highlight-reel moment from Naeten Mitchell, who returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
The scoring opened in the second quarter after a defensive battle early on. Ryan Hawk gave NMSU a 3-0 lead with a 28-yard field goal with 7 minutes left in the quarter.
Later in the quarter, Aggies scored its first touchdown of the game. A one-yard QB sneak by Fife to put NMSU up 10-0 with 2:45 left in the first half.
Sam Houston responded before the half with a 51-yard field goal from Christian Pavon, cutting the deficit to 10-3 at halftime.
After another Hawk field goal made it 13-3 in the third quarter, Sam Houston briefly closed the gap with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Watson to Alton McCaskill, making it 13-10 to end the quarter.
But NMSU took full control in the fourth quarter.
Running back Kadarius Calloway extended the lead with a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 20-10.
On the next kickoff, Shane Porter muffed the kick, and Calloway recovered the ball on Sam Houston’s two-yard line.
Three plays later, Fife connected with P.J. Johnson III on 4-yard touchdown reception, putting the Aggies up 27–10.
NMSU added a 45-yard field goal from Hawk and then put an exclamation point on the night when Naeten Mitchell returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown, sealing the 37–10 win.
