Report: Money remains issue for Dayot Upamecano, Bayern Munich

Will Dayot Upamecano get the money he wants from Bayern Munich?

The future of Dayot Upamecano has been a hot topic at Bavarian Football Works for a few months now.

With the Frenchman calling to pause the negotiations for the summer after he received what he perceived to be a lowball offer from the club, Upamecano has reportedly resumed communication with Bayern Munich. While we do not know just how serious things are at the moment.

Per Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia), money — as expected — is still at the forefront of the discussions:

Money is the main sticking point in the contract talks between Bayern and Dayot Upamecano. The Frenchman feels comfortable at Bayern and identifies with the club, but wants to be shown ‘appreciation’ and feel treated equally as other players who have recently extended their contacts. Upamecano is currently not one of the top earners – in addition, the player and his agents, Moussa Sissoko and Marco Lichtsteiner, are aware of the big signing fee that Alphonso Davies received when he signed a new contract. Extending Upamecano’s contract is a top priority for Bayern. The club remains optimistic, but at the same time don’t want to pay over the top as they’re still following a cost-cutting strategy. Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG are all interested and watching the situation.

Some rumors indicate that Upamecano, who currently makes €10 million with a bonus estimated to be worth €2.5 million, wants to land somewhere between Alphonso Davies (€15 million with a €5 million bonus) and Joshua Kimmich (€20 million with a €5 million bonus).

If Bayern Munich does not want to meet those numbers, you can pretty much guarantee Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Paris Saint-Germain likely will.
