Zaniolo: “I suffered when I left Roma.”

Former Roma man Nicolo Zaniolo reflected his the turbulent career in a new interview with La Repubblica.

“On the one hand, I think if I’ve gotten to this point, it’s because it had to be that way. On the other, I know I’ve made many mistakes in my career, partly due to the excessive media exposure I was given from the beginning and the pressure I had to endure.”

“Being on everyone’s lips at 18, in a city like Rome, isn’t easy. I’d challenge anyone not to get a little cocky. I was wrong to feel a little too high. Many mistakes are due to that. Now I recognize them; if I could do it again, I wouldn’t make them again.”

“Perhaps outsiders didn’t realize how much I suffered in having to leave Roma. It was and remains a club I love. I had a great time there, and it was hard to part with the fans, the club, and the people. Maybe I didn’t let it show, because I prefer to keep things to myself.”

“The best moment of my career? The goal in Tirana in the Conference League final was one of the greatest emotions of my life. Then came my debuts: at the Bernabeu in the Champions League, before even playing in Serie A or with the national team.”
