Gilbert girls cross country runner Keira Andersen and Nevada football player Drake Hinson were voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Sept. 21-27.
Andersen easily won female Athlete of the Week with 71% of the vote.
She won the varsity race at the Riverhawk Invitational cross country meet in Mason City on Sept. 23.
Andersen claimed victory with a 5-kilometer time of 19 minutes, 5.7 seconds. She beat Mason City's Brogan Evans by 24.8 seconds.
Hinson won male Athlete of the Week with 65% of the vote.
The quarterback had a big game to help Class 3A No. 7 Nevada win its district opener over Winterset, 34-25, on Sept. 26.
Hinson completed 16 of 20 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. He also ran the ball nine times for 57 yards and three scores.
