If you hadn’t got the memo: Bayern did not enjoy the Tuchel era.
Once upon a time at Bayern Munich, the treble was in danger.
And so commenced a sequence of events that would lead to the puzzling, exhausting, occasionally thrilling but rarely compelling Thomas Tuchel reign. In case you were wondering — but why would anyone, at this point? — the Bavarians consider that period very regrettable, indeed.
And they’re very glad to have been rescued from it by current head coach Vincent Kompany.
“The team spirit is back,” proclaimed former chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, via BR24 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It was somewhat lost under Thomas Tuchel, because in terms of empathy, there really wasn’t enough work done.
“Kompany has formed the team into a unit from day one, maintaining a good rapport with every single player. The result is that the team is working really well, both on the pitch and in their private lives. They do a lot together, and the coach is the spiritus rector; he’s doing a great job.”
Kompany certainly has the Bavarians humming at the moment. And it seems clear that his personal touch is helping unlock potential that had been left to wither in the stultifying era that came before.
