While there have been rumblings that Oba Femi’s days in NXT might be numbered, a new report claims there are no plans for a main roster promotion any time soon. Maybe.

Over the weekend, Femi defended his NXT title in a main event clash with former North American champ and AEW veteran Ricky Saints. Despite dominating much of the bout, Saints was able to overcome the Nigerian giant and end his lengthy title reign.

Such a moment usually means a move to either WWE Raw or SmackDown was being planned. However, according to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, “it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows” when it comes to Femi moving up to the main roster.

However, he did suggest it’s not a 100% no.

Could WWE be swerving fans with Oba Femi promotion?

While Meltzer claims his sources were not aware of Oba Femi being moved to Raw or SmackDown, he also suggested it’s still a possibility.

“They do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time, so people who should know get blindsided… There is no such thing as a 100 percent no,” Meltzer reported.

With Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque now in charge, the company has worked as hard as ever to keep its plans under wraps and has even seemingly fed fans false information to set up surprises. The most infamous was the face injury to Seth Rollins that set up a Money in the Bank cash-in at SummerSlam in August.

What brand would be a better fit for Oba Femi?

The former NXT and North American champion has WrestleMania main eventer potential. The company is sure to try and maximize his eventual main roster arrival and keep him just as strong at the next level as he has been in NXT.

Raw on Netflix is jam-packed with a good amount of elite veterans and already has a pretty dominant force in the early stages of his prime in Gunther. That is why SmackDown may be a better fit. Top star Cody Rhodes is already on the brand, but recent reports have suggested the blue brand is being looked at as a breeding ground for stars the company wants to develop.
