Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes 2 ended in controversy
Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes went to the cards again, and this time, the judging was even more controversial.
After another five rounds of thrilling action, Nurmagomedov scored a second decision win over his rival to capture the newly minted PFL lightweight world title. However, the spread of the scores was confusing given the competitive nature of the fight, with one judge giving all five rounds to Nurmagomedov.
Check out the official scorecard below.
It was judge Bryan Miner who scored the fight 50-45 for Nurmagomedov, while judge Hadi Ali scored it 49-46 and Darryl Ransom scored it 48-47 for the eventual winner.
Nurmagomedov and Hughes first fought in Dubai this past January, when Nurmagomedov scored a majority decision nod over Hughes in a back-and-forth battle that drew plaudits from the MMA community. Both fighters subsequently scored wins to set up the rematch and though the fight once again delivered on the action front, the result leaves the door open for a trilogy bout in the future.
