One score is enough for Conemaugh Township football in shutout win vs. Penns Manor

The Conemaugh Township defense has been on call all season, and it showed up plenty in a Week 7 win over Penns Manor that only had one scoring play.

DAVIDSVILLE  Sophomore quarterback Greyson Studer had 123 yards on the ground, including the game’s only touchdown, and another 84 yards through the air, leading Conemaugh Township football to a 6-0 victory over visiting Penns Manor on Friday, Oct. 3.

“In the first half we didn’t do so hot,” said Studer. “In the second half we came out and controlled the lines, and they gave me a lot of running room.”

Conemaugh Township head coach Brandon Studer liked how his quarterback took control of the game after the half.

“As the season goes on you have to add new wrinkles in each week,” said Brandon Studer. “Brennan Lohr has carried the load most of the year, and as defenses started to key on him, we needed to change it up and number six (Greyson Studer) stepped up tonight.”

Penns Manor started the second quarter with a 14-play drive that ended with Lohr intercepting a pass from Andy Jarvie inside the 10-yard line.

Finally, something to cheer for the homecoming crowd, when Studer hit a 32-yard bomb down the left sideline to D.J. Bambino. With the ball at the 10-yard line on fourth down, instead of trying a field goal, Conemaugh Township went for it and the pass attempt fell incomplete.

Conemaugh Township came out inspired up front in the second half, as the offensive line took control and marched the team down the field with 12 of 13 plays on the ground. Studer capped the drive with a nice 12-yard run for the touchdown to lead 6-0.

Conemaugh Township sophomore quarterback Greyson Studer scored the lone touchdown of the game in a Week 7 Heritage Conference win over Penns Manor, Oct. 3, in Davidsville.

On their final drive, the Comets pulled out a trick play with a hook-and-lateral that went for 57 yards, moving the ball from the Penns Manor 11 to the Conemaugh Township 32-yard line.

However, it was the Conemaugh Township defense once again standing tall, forcing an incompletion on fourth down inside its 20-yard line to complete the shutout.

Coach Studer knows his defense has carried them most of the season.

“Our defense has played tough all year,” said Coach Studer. “Their running back Justin Vojtek is a great back, and we needed to gang tackle him all night, and our guys really followed the ball well tonight to contain him.”

Next week, Conemaugh Township (4-3) hosts Cambria Heights on Oct. 10.
