(WHTM) — Gavin McKenna scored his first two points in the first period of his NCAA Division 1 ice hockey debut Friday night as the Penn State Nittany Lions faced Arizona State.

The NHL’s consensus top draft prospect was credited with an assist on both goals, giving the Nittany Lions a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

The first goal came on the powerplay just under 11 minutes into the first period as junior forward Aiden Fink found the back of the net. McKenna, a freshman, and sophomore forward Charlie Cerrato were credited with the assist.

With less than a minute left in the first period, Cerrato found the net, assisted by McKenna and Fink.
