AEW Dynamite’s anniversary show was a ratings disaster, drawing its worst number ever

It looks like Nielsen’s new method for calculating TV ratings with Big Data is a disaster for AEW Dynamite.

The TV ratings and viewership data are in for the Oct. 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, its special 6 year anniversary broadcast.

Per Wrestlenomics, Dynamite netted 465,000 viewers and a 0.09 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic. The show finished in 6th place on cable for the night.

This is the first week of results for Dynamite using Nielsen’s new method for calculating TV ratings, and it looks like a disaster for AEW. This is the lowest TV viewership the show has ever done on a Wednesday, and the lowest demo rating in Dynamite’s history. We saw NXT take a similar hit to its numbers this week now that Nielsen is using the Panel + Big Data calculation, and Dynamite came in with even lower numbers than that.

It’s worth noting that Major League Baseball playoff games aired on Wednesday night, including the babyface New York Yankees defeating the heel Boston Red Sox; that MLB game partially overlapped with Dynamite and drew nearly 7 million viewers with a 1.56 rating in the key demo.

The numbers can drop even lower from here, in theory, because Dynamite is moving to “Title Tuesday” next week (Oct. 7) due to the MLB playoffs, and going head-to-head against NXT vs. TNA Showdown.

Here’s a breakdown of AEW Dynamite’s television viewership and rating in the 18-49 demo over the last year:

* Aired outside its normal Wednesday night primetime slot
º Nielsen began using Panel + Big Data calculation
