Williams Formula 1 drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz are set to be disqualified from the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying session.

Albon and Sainz qualified 12th and 13th respectively at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but an alleged breach of F1's technical regulations was spotted in parc ferme following the session.

"The uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions were checked on car numbers 23 and 55," a report from the FIA's technical delegate Jo Bauer reads.

"Both cars exceeded the maximum limit of 85 mm on both sides of the rear wing outer area.

"As this is not in compliance with TR Article 3.10.10 g., I am referring this matter to the stewards for their confirmation."

In other words, the cars' DRS created a higher gap than permitted by the regulations.

Albon, Sainz and a Williams team representative have now been summoned by the stewards, with their hearing scheduled for 11:30pm local time – which is 4:30pm BST.

There was a precedent for such a breach with both Haas cars at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, which led to them being disqualified from the qualifying session. The disqualification meant both Haas racers started the grand prix from the back of the grid.
