ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WETM) – Four local high school teams earned major victories on the gridiron.
Waverly, Edison, Schuyler, and Cowanesque Valley each battled their way to huge wins, on Saturday. Highlighting the 4 games was a ranked clash of unbeatens, where Class B’s (#4) Waverly outlasted Class A’s (#16) Union-Endicott 21-20.
The Wolverines led the ranked matchup in the 3rd 21-7, before the homestanding Tigers battled back. U-E stormed out of the gates in the 4th, rallying back within 1, on an 87-yard touchdown reception from Alex Palombaro with 2 minutes to go. The Tigers would then go for 2 and the win, seeing Joe Genarelli connect with Palombaro, but the try would be called back due to a penalty. On the re-try, U-E would attempt an extra point to tie, but miss wide and seal the win for Waverly.
In Class C, the Schuyler Storm picked up their 1st win of the season in dominant fashion. The Storm rocked Harpusville/Afton 49-13 on the road. In 8-man football, Edison continued to stay hot, improving to (4-0) with a 56-7 victory over Lansing. The 5th ranked Spartans were led by quarterback Jace Schiller, who piled up 252 yards and 5 total touchdowns.
In the Northern Tier, Cowanesque Valley wrapped up the week’s slate with a 63-0 shutout of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech.
