Now that we are past the midway point of the Iowa high school football regular season, it is a perfect time to look at some of the top freshmen who have shone on the field this year.

Maybe they were expected to make an impact, and maybe not, but these ninth-graders have performed strongly for their respective teams.
Make sure to vote for who you believe has been the best Iowa high school football freshman player to date this year in the poll below. And here are the nominees.
Marshall Sheldon, Iowa City High: Sheldon is seeing action in 5A, the state's largest classification, on both sides of the ball. He has 42 tackles with nine for loss and a sack to go along with 261 yards rushing.
Aiden Kjergaard, Audubon: The Wheelers are a potent offensive attack, and the newcomer is part of that, running for 787 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has three interceptions on defense, with two returned for scores.
Luis Pineda, Oelwein: With 27 receptions and 346 yards, Pineda has displayed maturity as a freshman on the football field.
Conner Winters, Kee: Winters is a big-play threat, averaging 20.5 yards per catch this year. He has 11 receptions for 226 yards with three trips to the end zone.
Joe Kielman, West Marshall: Along with making 36.5 tackles, 24 of which have been solo stops, Kielman has 11 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Griffin Mohr, Coon Rapids-Bayard: With six sacks, 10 tackles for loss and 27.5 tackles in all. Mohr is going to be a problem for the next several years.
Lucas Minor, Bedford: Minor continues to add to his impressive first year at the high school level, racking up five sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Kian Ruiz, Indianola: It is a lost art, but the kicking game is so important. Ruiz has handled it well, making 19 of 20 extra-point attempts and a field goal.
