Leicester City’s interim head coach Rick Passmoor says that his side need to show a killer instinct as they look to convert more of their chances into goals.
The Foxes have registered 23 shots on goal across their last two Barclays Women’s Super League matches but they’ve failed to come away with any points.
When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s fixture against Everton at The King Power Stadium, Leicester City’s interim boss Passmoor said that his side need to be more ruthless in the opposition box.
“[The stats] just show what we’ve been working on; we’ve been working on the in-possession with the build and develop,” Passmoor said. “We’ve got to then put the cherry on the cake because we are working well, getting inside the box. The stats and the data is showing a lot more touches in and around the box, shots off. We had 14 shots last weekend compared to Tottenham’s 10, [more] corners, etc.
“We’ve just got to be a bit more composed but ruthless in those moments, don’t rush. A shot is just a pass, just like you would pass along the backline or in midfield. We’ve just got to show that killer instinct in and around the 18-yard box.”
Both Leicester City and Everton have collected three points so far and Passmoor said that it is important to get positive results against the sides that are in and around you in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
He said “I think they’ve built really well. When you look at how Brian [Sørensen] has established his style of play over the last two or three years, particularly the movement and in-possession work, he has invested a lot of time and effort into it.
“They’ve done a big recruitment programme and they’ll be looking for move than in and around the bottom half. They’ll be looking at the top half.
“I’m looking forward to the game. We are aware that points are precious when you’re playing the teams around you.”
This afternoon’s fixture could see former Foxes Yuka Momiki and Ruby Mace make their King Power Stadium returns. Passmoor said that playing against former players has no impact on preparation.
He said “You research and respect the opposition no matter who it is. For people on the outside, it adds a little but more spice but we concentrate on us; we concentrate on what we’re good at, we concentrate on respecting the opposition but playing with no fear and being brave. What we have to ensure is that we are consistent with our behaviours throughout the game and that it is typified on Monday to Friday as well.”
Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 11.55pm. Tickets are available to purchase at The King Power Stadium this afternoon.
