Antony opens up after his departure from Manchester United
Antony settles his scores with Manchester United
After two turbulent years at Manchester United, Antony finally seems to have turned the page. Transferred permanently to Real Betis this summer, the Brazilian winger is enjoying a renaissance in Andalusia after a particularly tough spell at Old Trafford. Signed in 2022 for nearly €100 million, he never managed to live up to such a hefty investment, struggling with injuries, inconsistency, and relentless criticism. Now at peace, the 25-year-old agreed to reflect on this painful chapter in an interview with Sport.
"I'm not the kind of person who likes to stir up controversy or point fingers. In fact, I won't name any names in this interview, but I feel I was disrespected at Manchester, even treated a bit rudely. They didn't even say goodbye to me," he revealed, visibly affected by the cold nature of his departure.
Despite everything, Antony doesn't deny his time in England, describing it as a formative experience:
"Now, I don't care about it anymore because I'm where I want to be, at Betis. I live in Seville and that's the most important thing to me. I accept my faults, but I think off-the-pitch issues really affected my performance. I know my potential, my quality—I take responsibility for not playing as I should have, but I always try to see the positives."
Wearing the verdiblancas colors, the former Ajax player seems to have found peace and confidence again, far from the suffocating pressures of Manchester. For Antony, this new chapter in La Liga feels like a true rebirth.
