The Associated Press released their top 25 after Week 6, and the Georgia Bulldogs rose to the top 10.
The Associated Press released their weekly top 25 poll in college football. Despite week 6 of the season not featuring as many ranked matchups as Week 5, it was a crazy week featuring several upsets. Week 6 created a seismic shift in the rankings.
The Georgia Bulldogs improved from No. 12 to No. 10 this week. They earned the promotion after defeating the Kentucky Wildcats 35-14. The Bulldogs controlled the pace of the game the entire way, and if it weren't for a defensive breakdown in the second quarter and a Ryan Puglisi interception, Georgia could've shutout Kentucky.
Then again, the Bulldogs benefitted from a few of the teams above them losing. No. 7 Penn State and No. 9 Texas were kicked out of the top 25 completely after falling to significantly worse opponents. Texas lost on the road to the 2-2 Florida Gators 29-21, shaking up the SEC power rankings. The Gators defense sacked Arch Manning six times and forced him to throw two interceptions.
Penn State, meanwhile, was upset 37-42 vs. the 0-4 UCLA Bruins, who had just fired head coach DeShaun Foster. Former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava balled out for the first time in his UCLA career, throwing for 166 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 128 yards and three touchdowns.
As a result, two teams from the American conference (Memphis, USF) in the Group of 5 make it in at the bottom. The Memphis Tigers and USF Bulls play each other on October 25, and a win for either team could send them in the playoffs as the Group of 5 representative.
