West Ottawa, Holland Christian claim conference tennis titles; Zeeland teams tie for third

West Ottawa won its fifth consecutive OK Red title, while Holland Christian won the OK Black title in boys tennis.

The Panthers won five of the eight flights and finished with 49 points to hold off Rockford (43), Hudsonville (34), Grandville (21), Grand Haven (20) and East Kentwood (20).

"Every flight played exactly to their seed and a couple played beyond them in a performance that will go down as one of the best the boys tennis program has put together in recent memory," West Ottawa coach Brian Metz said. "Eight out of nine flights made the finals match with five of those flights ending up as flight champion."

West Ottawa's No. 2 doubles team of Teddy Mauger and Brayden Goodwin survived a 61-, 6-7(4), 6-2 semifinal over Grand Haven before beating Rockford 6-2, 6-4 in the finals.

"Four-year varsity tennis players and team captains, Teddy and Brayden have been on the verge of breaking out for weeks. Going into the event as the No. 2 seed after falling to Rockford earlier in the season, the duo knew they would have to unlock bigger parts of their games to have the success they wanted," Metz said. "Playing with an energy and confidence that was necessary to have the day they wanted, our No. 2 doubles team put their foot down and demanded more of themselves when it mattered most."
