Who should be the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week?

Athletes from Boys Ranch, Bushland, Randall, West Plains, Canadian, River Road, Stratford, Borger, Highland Park, Gruver and Childress are among this week's nominees.

Fall sports continue across the Lone Star State, and football, volleyball and cross country seasons are in full swing.

Standouts from each sport are among this week's nominees for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at [email protected], by messaging the Globe-News through its Facebook page or on Twitter @amarilloglobe.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.

The poll will close Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

This Week's Finalists

  • Isaac Acosta, Boys Ranch football — Acosta threw for 334 yards and 6 touchdowns in the Roughriders' win against Panhandle Christian Home Educators Association.
  • Kannon Aven, Bushland football — Aven completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns, adding 44 yards and another score on the ground in Bushland's win against Perryton.
  • Chloe Brown, Randall volleyball — Brown logged 36 kills, 31 digs, 3 aces and 2 assists while helping the Lady Raiders to a pair of wins.
  • Slayden Dickinson, Canadian football — Dickinson ran for 89 yards and caught six passes for 120 yards against Shallowater.
  • Gracie Froneman, River Road volleyball — Froneman finished with 14 digs, 11 kills and 10 assists in the Lady Cats' win against Dimmitt.
  • Darius Jones, Stratford football — Jones hauled in four passes for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns against Childress.
  • Reid Macon, West Plains football — Macon surpassed 10,000 career passing yards while leading West Plains to 35 points in the Wolves' contest against Argyle Liberty Christian.
  • Chelsea Medina, Borger volleyball — Medina tallied 22 assists, 17 digs, 3 aces and 2 kills in two matches last week.
  • Cecilia Murillo, West Plains volleyball — Murillo accumulated 66 assists, seven digs and two aces in matches against Canyon and Borger.
  • Haley Rogers, Highland Park volleyball — Rogers logged 23 assists and four aces in two matches for the Lady Hornets.
  • Briggs Satterfield, Gruver football — Satterfield threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another score in the first quarter of the Greyhound's win against River Road.
  • Selah Smith, Childress girls cross country — Smith finished the two-mile race at the LCU Tune-Up cross country meet in 12 minutes, 36 seconds, setting Childress' school record as a freshman.
