Retired NFL quarterback and current analyst Mark Sanchez is facing a series of charges after he was arrested in Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 3.
Sanchez, who was in town to broadcast the Week 5 meeting between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders, is alleged to have been involved in an altercation. The 38-year-old was stabbed, hospitalized, and arrested after allegedly attacking a 69-year-old man, who also suffered serious bodily harm.
As more details have emerged from the run-in, prosecutors have provided more information on the charges that Sanchez faces. Here is a look at the charges and what is next for Sanchez.

Mark Sanchez charges
Felony battery involving serious bodily injury
Sanchez is facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury, prosecutors announced on Monday, Oct. 6.
The new charge was added after investigators learned of the severity of the victim's injuries. This felony charge carries a sentence of one to six years, according to Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.
Misdemeanor battery with injury
The misdemeanor battery charge was one of the first three levied against Sanchez for his role in the altercation. In Indiana, battery is a Class A misdemeanor if it results in bodily injury to another person.
Misdemeanor unlawful entry of a motor vehicle
Sanchez also faces a misdemeanor charge for unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, which, per Indiana law, is levied upon a person who enters a motor vehicle without permission, signaling an unauthorized entry.
Misdemeanor public intoxication
The third misdemeanor charge Sanchez faces is public intoxication, which Indiana law states "it is a Class B misdemeanor for a person to be in a public place or a place of public resort in a state of intoxication caused by the person's use of alcohol or a controlled substance," under any of these conditions if the person:
- Endangers the person's life;
- Endangers the life of another person;
- Breaches the peace or is in imminent danger of breaching the peace; or
- Harasses, annoys, or alarms another person

Is Mark Sanchez going to jail?
Sanchez faces jail time for his charges, though that is to be determined. He waived an initial court hearing set for Tuesday, Oct. 7, and has a pretrial conference hearing set for Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The sentence for the felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury could be one to six years.
Why was Mark Sanchez arrested?
Sanchez was arrested for his alleged role in a physical altercation in Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 3.
Mears said that "The allegations involve a 38-year-old man becoming involved in an altercation with a 69-year-old man who sustained significant and very serious injuries."
Sanchez is alleged to have approached a 69-year-old truck driver in a hotel loading dock, escalating "a dispute about the victim's parked vehicle." Sanchez allegedly climbed into the truck and kept the driver from calling for help before it became a physical confrontation.

Multiple angles of surveillance footage captured the incident, according to reports. The footage has not yet been made public.
TMZ has obtained footage of both Sanchez and his alleged victim being stretchered to the ambulance. The New York Post has shared footage of Sanchez walking down the sidewalk after the fight.

The family added the man was cut in the fight and it went through his cheek and hit his tongue.

Sanchez suffered several stab wounds to his upper torso.
Initial reports indicated that Sanchez was seriously injured in the altercation. Saturday afternoon, Fox Sports announced Sanchez was recovering in the hospital and was in stable condition.
