Buccaneers' Todd Bowles reveals "Three P's" key to clutch time success originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2025 have become the NFL's clutch time kings, with all four of their wins being by one score, and their one loss was by, yep, you guessed it, one score.
Baker Mayfield has already recorded four game-winning drives this season, tying his career high, despite being only five games into the year, which is impressive. Having been 3-6 in one-score games last season (including playoffs), to now being 4-1, that is some turnaround for the NFC South franchise.
But what has been the catalyst for such a dramatic turn of events in close games?
“Well, you learn from last year,” Bowles said. “Experience is one thing, resiliency is another, practice is another. Coach Moore [Tom Moore, senior offensive assistant] says it all the time. You prepare hard, you practice hard, you play hard, and we go by the three Ps, as judged by Coach Moore, and we try to cover all that stuff, as everybody else does as well. But they're really focused towards the end of the ball game, and they understand what they have to do.”

Buccaneers thin ice with one-score games?
The beauty of football is that when you are winning, it masks things, and for the Buccaneers, you could make the case that they could be 0-5 had a bounce of the ball gone one way here and there.
But also, sometimes you make your own luck, and the offense as a whole has been playing superb football, with only two turnovers in the first five games, both of which came in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
So, the blueprint is there, and as Bowles stated, experience and the "three P's" are driving this team forward when it comes to crunch time late in games.
Is it sustainable? It was for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, but for Tampa Bay? As long as it follows the "three P's," it is in with a shot.
