The Fisher Catholic football team continued its outstanding season by topping Millersport to stay unbeaten in MSL play.
The Fisher Catholic football team continues its outstanding season by improving to 6-1 overall after the Irish defeated Millersport 36-12 Saturday. The Irish improved to 4-0 in the league.
Against the Lakers (2-5), Anderson Crook, Leo Hampshire and Sam Tencza all scored on short touchdown runs. Jacob Welsh added a rushing touchdown and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Blake Wohrer. Welsh also had two 2-point conversion runs.
The Irish, who are ranked No. 2 in Division VII, Region 27 computer rankings, will host Berne Union (4-3) Oct. 10 at Fulton Field.
CROSS COUNTRY
Liberty Union: The Liberty Union Cross Country teams hosted the Lion Invitational Saturday. In the girls' race, the winner was Elsie Amlin of Federal Hocking with a time of 21:40. In the boys' race, the winner was Jordan McQueary of Fairfield Christian Academy with a time of 17:19.
The Bloom Carroll girls' team was first, with Liberty Union, Fairfield Christian Academy and Granville Christian Academy placing second through fourth, respectively. Places for the Lions girls’ team: Rachel Sponseller (third, 22:03), Elizabeth Conn (eighth, 23:11), Taylor Jones (10th, 23:44), Caroline Endsley (11th, 24:01), Lily Endsley (15th, 24:47), Emily Shultz (21st, 26:40), Alaina Brate (23rd, 27:10) and Kathleen Slaby (28th, 29:53).
Fairfield Christian Academy won the boys meet, with Fisher Catholic, Lakewood, Bloom-Carroll and Liberty Union placing second through fifth, respectively. Places for the Lions boys’ team: William McCreery (second, 17:38), Charlie Sponseller (17th, 19:39), Micah Fisher (30th, 21:10), Hunter Maddux (32nd, 21:38), Silas Kohler (39th, 22:42) and Levi Hendershot (40th, 24:04).
Fisher Catholic: The Irish boys and girls participated in the Liberty Union Lion Invitational. The Irish Boys placed second, scoring 50 points.
Leading the Irish was senior Landen Funk, who placed seventh with a time of 18:23. Other Irish Runners were senior Reece Hagy, eighth-18:24.06, Senior Roman Funk, 11th, 18:42.3, sophomore Corbin Stobart-18:51.4 and freshman Gordon Crabtree- 14th-18:57.2.
The Irish girls were led by Junior Mary Grace Crabtree, who placed 2nd with a time of 21:53.2. Other Irish Runners were Eve Ohwoforworaye, 9th, 23:25.4, Stella Koehler, 13th-24:16.8, and Hannah Slaby, 22nd, 27:09.6.
SOCCER
Bloom-Carroll 3, Pickerington Central 2: Mackenzie Haslett scored two goals to help lead the Bulldogs to a nonconference win over the Tigers. Reagan Bender added a goal and Whitney Passen finished with eight saves.
