High school boys golf: Skyline, Olympus tied for first after 5A state tournament opening round
A year after Skyline ran away with the 5A state championship, it looks like there will be a lot more nervy moments a year later.
Olympus and Skyline both shot 285 team scores during Monday’s opening round at Talons Cove, as the rivals will have everything to play for during Tuesday’s final round.
West Field and Timpview are tied for third with 296s.
In the 5A medalist race, Olympus senior Will Pedersen will take a two-shot lead into the final round after firing a 7-under 65 on Monday, highlighted by his eagle on the par 5 13th.
Skyline senior Austin Shelley shot a 5-under 67 with seven birdies and two bogeys and sits alone in second place.
West Field’s Ethan Luna and Olympus’ Lincoln Peterson are tied for third with 68s, while last year’s 5A runner-up Carson Peterson of Salem Hills sits alone in fifth place after carding a 69.
