Elyse Rogier of Flat Rock, Jennah Cadle of Monroe, Madilyn Peterson of Gibraltar Carlson and Brooke Burke of New Boston Huron reach state golf finals.
Elyse Rogier made history Monday.
The Flat Rock junior became the first girl in school history to qualify for the state finals.
Three other Monroe County Region girls – Jennah Cadle of Monroe, Madilyn Peterson of Gibraltar Carlson and Brooke Burke of New Boston Huron – punched their tickets state during regional tournaments on Oct. 6.
Rogier carded a 93 at Tecumseh Country Club.
“She was excited,” Flat Rock coach Tony Kmoitek said. “She wished she had putted a little better, but everything else was solid.
Cadle emerged from the Division 1 Regional at Washtenaw Golf Club with a round of 96.
The softball and basketball player is out for golf for the first time as a senior.
“Jennah is a first-year player,” Monroe coach Jayme Schneider said. “We did not expect that. She hit some really good drives. She’s a softball player, so she’s got a good swing. She’s strong.”
Peterson and Burke both qualified out of the Division 2 Regional at Sandy Creek Golf Club.
Pederson shot 86 and Burke 91.
Peterson, who will compete at state for the fourth time in her career, had to recover from a disastrous 10 on the 10th hole.
“She shook that off and finished well,” said Carlson coach Katie LeBrun.
Cadle’s teammate Askhen Aaron just missed a state trip with a round of 100 as Monroe wound up fifth in the team standings.
Sixth-place Bedford was led by Ragan Oscar with 103.
Carlson, which was fifth in its regional, also got a 102 from Juliana Guzman. That was the same score posted by Raegan Budzios for ninth-place Airport.
Ida, fielding a golf team for the first time in school history, placed ninth at Tecumseh led by Jessica Johnson with 108.
