Byron edges Winnebago on penalty kicks to claim the Big Northern Conference soccer championship

Byron and Winnebago are about as even as two soccer teams can get. They were both 6-1 in conference play going into their final conference match of the season Monday evening. They were even for 100 minutes of this one.

BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Byron and Winnebago are about as even as two soccer teams can get. They were both 6-1 in conference play going into their final conference match of the season Monday evening. They were even for 100 minutes of this one.

Each team scored a goal in the first half. Each team scored a goal in the second half. Neither team scored through two five-minute overtime sessions.

The Tigers then won it on penalty kicks 4-3 to claim the match 3-2. Senior Camden Wright booted in the decisive penalty kick to end it. Byron goalkeeper Andrew Payne was clutch. He turned away to of Bago’s penalty kicks.
