Jalen Hurts tried to put himself in position to make the craziest play in NFL history.
It didn't happen, but the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback gave all the effort he could.
It came on the final play of the Eagles' loss Sunday to the Denver Broncos.
It was a Hail Mary situation. Hurts lofted the football toward the back of the end zone, where both Devonta Smith and A.J. Brown were waiting.
And then Hurts took off.

A cool camera angle caught Hurts in a dead sprint as soon as he released the ball. He was trying to get close enough to catch the ball if it deflected back toward the field of play.
The ball got knocked down in the end zone instead, though, as both Smith and Brown made an effort to catch it.

That meant Hurts' sprint was for naught.
But it's a totally new concept, one that may not have been seen before.

Not all QBs are fast enough to even consider this. But a guy like Hurts actually got just about far enough to have had a chance at a particular deflection coming his way.
And if a quarterback were to catch his own Hail Mary pass and score, it'd be the wildest play in NFL history.
So here's to Hurts for trying this. And hopefully other QBs give it a go, too. It has the potential to be as epic as can be.
