Chelsea star reveals his “idol” – but he’s already better at one thing than this Chelsea favourite

Moises Caicedo was Chelsea’s star on Saturday as they beat Liverpool, in part because he scored a truly memorable goal for the Blues.

On Stadium Astro he was interviewed after the game, and they asked about why he had decided to take on a ranged effort.

Caicedo says Liverpool defenders made opportunity to shoot obvious

Moises Caicedo lashes one in from range against Liverpool.

“Yeah, they were dropping so I found the space and I shot because it was a great opportunity to shoot,” the midfielder said.

He was also asked about what Enzo Maresca had told his team before kick off:

“That we need to do our best, show our best on the pitch. Even without the ball. That was important because Liverpool are a great team, so I think we did really well. That’s why we got the 3 points.”

Caicedo admits his idol was a former Chelsea man

William Gallas was one of the interviewers and he compared Caicedo’s performance to his old teammate Claude Makelele – something the Ecuadorian definitely enjoyed:

“Makelele, everybody knows him and what he did here. He’s my idol. I’ve tried to learn from him, and I’m doing my best here.”

We hate to say it – but for all Makelele’s quality, you didn’t see him zipping in lasers to the top corner like that.

When asked if this was his best performance of the season, Caicedo had to point out that he’s racked up a few good ones already.

“I had some good performances already, but I’m so happy about the goal I scored. I think it was a great performance, but I already had some.”

He’s not wrong. If anything we struggle to give the man of the match award to anyone else these days.
