Bayern Interest Adds New Twist to Transfer Battle
Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, whose contract with the South London club is set to expire next summer. The 25-year-old, who has become one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders, was close to joining Liverpool on Deadline Day, but the deal collapsed when Palace failed to secure a replacement.

“FC Bayern are interested in Guehi,” Sky Germany reported, adding that club sporting director Max Eberl is “a big fan” of the England international. Eberl is believed to be monitoring the situation closely, with a potential free transfer viewed as a significant opportunity for the Bundesliga champions.
Competition from Europe’s Elite
Guehi’s growing reputation has attracted attention from across Europe. Liverpool and Barcelona are both “concretely interested”, while the player himself “dreams of a move to Real Madrid”, according to Sky Germany.
At Palace, Guehi remains central to Oliver Glasner’s plans. The former Bundesliga coach, together with the club hierarchy, refused to sanction his move to Liverpool last summer due to the lack of a suitable replacement. Palace are still keen to extend his contract, but with multiple top clubs circling, renewal talks appear increasingly difficult.
Palace Success Strengthens Defender’s Profile
Under Glasner, Palace have made an impressive start to the new campaign, earning 12 points from their first seven matches, including victories over Liverpool and Aston Villa. The team also secured silverware last season, lifting both the FA Cup and the English Super Cup. Guehi’s leadership and defensive solidity were central to those achievements.

Signed from Chelsea in 2021 for around €23.3 million, Guehi has now made 139 Premier League appearances, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. His consistency has also earned him 25 caps for England.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
Guehi was widely viewed as the perfect addition to Arne Slot’s back line, offering composure on the ball and aerial dominance that fit seamlessly into Liverpool’s system. When Palace blocked the move at the eleventh hour, the Reds’ defensive depth remained an area of concern.
Bayern’s entry into the race only complicates matters further. The prospect of Guehi leaving on a free transfer will make him even more appealing, but Liverpool may need to act early to avoid a bidding war involving Europe’s elite. The club’s long-standing admiration for the Palace captain is no secret, and his experience in English football could give him the edge over continental alternatives.
If Liverpool can secure him on a pre-contract in January, it would represent a shrewd piece of business, particularly with questions around long-term successors for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté. However, if Bayern or Real Madrid make formal offers, Guehi’s ambitions could steer him elsewhere. For Liverpool fans, this feels like a test of the club’s intent under the new sporting leadership.
