Who's on top of the Section 1 football standings with three weeks to go?

There is required math to do before we know who's going to make the playoffs in Class B and how Class C and D will be seeded.

We've still got three weeks to go in the Section 1 regular season, but now's a good time for any team hoping to make a championship run to step back and look at the competitive landscape.

Here are the standings heading into the weekend.

Sort of.

Everything in Class AA and Class A is straightforward, based on head-to-head wins and losses. Figuring out who's in and who's out in Class B is going to require an accountant, who's also going to play a role in seeding Class C and Class D this fall.

It's all due to the decision to merge schedules in those classes. There's no point in doing the math until the final week or two of the season. Each team will have a playoff index calculated by taking a team's final winning percentage, adding the winning percentages of each opponent that team defeated, subtracting the losing percentages of each opponent that team lost to and then factoring in a multiplier assigned before the season that's based on the perceived strength of the program.

It's football calculus.

Listed are overall and league records. Anyway, there's enough here to begin sketching in the playoff picture:
