The Women's Super League has introduced new financial rules that will improve the wage floor for the top two tiers of English football.
The WSL has been continuing to try and improve the professionalism of the women's game and these new rules are intended to help that according to a report from journalist Matt Hughes of The Guardian.
Previously, players in the second division struggled to make ends meet while pursuing their footballing ambitions. However, new rules mean that young players in the newly-rebranded WSL 2, formerly the Championship, will be guaranteed at least the national living wage.
Top flight players will also see their floor raised with those over the age of 23 guaranteed at least £40,000.
The new rules show the progression of women's football in recent years while still showing the gulf in wealth between the men's game and the women's game.
