Nico Schlotterbeck could become one of the key names in the upcoming summer transfer market. The left-footed Borussia Dortmund defender has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Barcelona.
The 25-year-old German international perfectly fits the profile sought by Barça director Deco, and his contractual situation places him firmly in the transfer spotlight.
After all, his contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in 2027, meaning he will be entering the final year of his deal come next summer.
Borussia Dortmund wish to retain Schlotterbeck
However, according to BILD (h/t SPORT), Borussia Dortmund have already offered Schlotterbeck an extension until 2030 in an attempt to secure his future.
Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl has already contacted the defender’s representatives to propose a significant salary increase.
Schlotterbeck currently earns around €2.5 million per season, and the German club has offered him a deal that could rise to a maximum of €8 million, including fixed and performance-based bonuses. The offer, however, might not be enough to convince him.

Moreover, Schlotterbeck is in no hurry to renew and stated a few days ago that he does not plan to sign anything for the moment.
“Of course, there is mutual appreciation, but to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be renewing my contract anytime soon,” he had said.
Schlotterbeck could be open to Barcelona move
As per the report, Schlotterbeck would view a move to Barcelona very favourably, and manager Hansi Flick is said to hold very positive reports on him.
There has been interest from Bayern Munich as well, but the 25-year-old centre-back but Dortmund would prefer to sell him abroad if push comes to shove, while the player himself would favour a move outside of Germany.
Schlotterbeck’s market valuation is currently around €45 million. However, if Dortmund are forced to sell him with only one year left on his contract, they would likely have to lower their demands to avoid losing him for free in 2027.
