Week 6 of 337-Area high school football is loaded with primetime matchups you won't want to miss. Here are the key storylines to follow.
High school football fans in the 337 will be in store for district play galore as we enter Week 6 of the 2025 season.
The Class 5A District 3 race is heating up with Thursday Night Lights on tap, featuring district champ hopefuls Carencro and Southside. Over in Class 2A District 6, two favorites to win it all kick off district play in Lafayette Christian Academy and Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy.
With so many primetime matchups lined up for Oct. 9 and 10, the Daily Advertiser has got you covered with three key storylines to follow this week.
Maintaining perfection
At the Week 6 point of the season, only six area teams remain undefeated in Teurlings Catholic, Erath, Jeanerette, Ascension Episcopal, Westminster Christian Academy-Opelousas and LRCA. All six teams will put their winning streaks on the line this week in district play.
The Rebels face a tough Rayne team, but come into the matchup with momentum after beating Comeaux 55-14 last week. In Erath, the Bobcats kick off Class 3A District 5 play against the DeQuincy Tigers. Jeanerette football will take on a 1-4 Centerville squad also in its district play opener.
Also kicking off district play are the Blue Gators, who face a winless Gueydan team. Two games into its district schedule is WCA-Opelousas, who may have the toughest time defending its 5-0 record. The Crusaders face Opelousas Catholic fresh off of it ruining St. Edmund’s perfect record last week with a 52-22 victory.
A Backyard Brawl
Only four miles separate LCA and LRCA High schools, making this week’s meeting a good old fashion backyard brawl between the Knights and Tigers. The Tigers sit 5-0 on the season, averaging close to 46 points per game with junior quarterback Kennan Brown Jr. leading the charge.
They will face their biggest challenge yet in a loaded Knights squad, who’ve been punching above their class in non-district play. LCA football enters the match with a 55-48 victory over reigning LHSAA Non-Select DI champs Central. And the Knights are hungry for more.
Leading them is senior quarterback, and Louisiana commit Braylon Walker, a threat on the ground and in the air. Last season, LCA came away with a 34-19 victory and will be on the hunt to end the Tigers’ bid for a perfect season.
Emerging district frontrunners
Carencro, Southside, and Acadiana football all sit undefeated in district play and this week is an opportunity to continue that. Of the three, the Golden Bears may have the toughest way to get to 3-0 as they face Lafayette in the Mighty Lions’ den. Both teams feature explosive offenses and are walking highlight reels when they get going.
For Acadiana, it faces a 1-4 Barbe team that is looking to find some momentum. The Wreckin’ Rams have run up the score the past two weeks, outscoring opponents 123-0 and will look to do the same against the Buccaneers.
Southside football will be taking on Sam Houston this week looking for its fifth win of the season. With a solid running back room and a defense to balance it out, the Sharks are aiming to ground and pound their way to 3-0 to maintain their frontrunner status in district play.
